I bank with First Direct, and was intrigued by a posting by their Marketing Director, Mark Mullen on the redesign and overhaul of First Direct's website, read it here The quote comes from Ratatouille, the new cartoon film from Pixar. Read the summary of the observation here
The reason 'The New Needs Friends' caught my eye, is that in this world of criticism and denigration, far too few of us stand up and 'Do New'. It's easy to do 'Old' - you simply look at what's been done in the past, and make it worse. Far harder to, for example, introduce a touch screen operating system into a mobile phone, like Apple has done, work tirelessly to promote the potentially disastrous effects of climate change, as Al Gore has done, or even in my own little way, launch a shaving oil called King of Shaves when the norm peddled by Gillette was steel encased cans of shaving chemicals, or launch the 'Will Bar', a 'snack fit not fat' energy bar, when the entire confectionery business is based on supersizing their bars.
So, all of you out there who find it easy to have a go at new, there's a great quote by Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben and Jerry's about 'The Truth Of New'
1. It's Ridiculed.
2. It's Violently Opposed.
3. It's Accepted..
Thanks Jerry. And tomorrow afternoon, I think I'll take my son and his favourite cousin to see the movie.
